Huge Fly Fisherman In Patagonia 3.0

March 3, 2025

We were absolutely thrilled to recently welcome back a familiar face—and a fantastic fisherman—Ben, from the popular YouTube channel, Huge Fly Fisherman, for his third hosted trip to Vista Patagonia Lodge!

Day-by-Day Diversity: Lakes, Rivers, and Creeks

Ben and his group spent six incredible days with us exploring the diverse waters around our corner of Chilean Patagonia. The resulting video perfectly captures the sheer variety, camaraderie, and excitement that defines a fishing trip here.

What makes fishing at Vista Patagonia so special is the vast range of water available, and Ben’s crew wasted no time sampling it all!

Days 1 & 2: Big Water & Boat Fishing

The adventure began on a giant, magnificent lake, motoring up an inlet and fishing the vast main body. Alongside our own expert guide, Christian, Ben’s first day saw the team landing beautiful fish on black streamers, successfully “breaking the ice” with a mix of rainbows and browns.

Day two took them to a different, stunning river, where Ben joined Carlos Pacho (of the famous Pacho fishing family!) in the boat. Despite challenging weather, they persevered, eventually hitting a “flurry” of action on streamers, proving that persistence pays off in the unpredictable Patagonian climate.

Day 3: Small Water, Giant Views

The landscape shifted on day three as they headed into a beautiful pastoral valley to wade a small creek. Accompanied by our guide, Huff, and fellow angler Luke, the day was dedicated to precision fishing with dry flies, dry-droppers, and even a Euro-nymphing setup for “clean up.”

They found success fishing a small bionic ant pattern, proving that even the smaller waters hold surprisingly strong and beautiful brown and rainbow trout. Ben called the scenery and the setting “amazing,” and we couldn’t agree more!

The Crew: Our Guides Make the Difference

Ben made sure to give a shout-out to the incredible people who make these trips possible. A huge thank you goes out to our entire team, including:

  • Christian
  • Carlos Pacho
  • Huff

Our guides are not only professional fishermen but passionate hosts who work tirelessly to put guests on fish, whether it’s leading the boat, offering the right fly choice, or expertly netting a fish right as it jumps!

More Than Just Fishing

While Ben admitted that filming gets tough when the fishing is that good, he did mention a few things that truly complete the Vista Patagonia Lodge experience:

  • Warm Welcome: Even after returning late on day one, the team had warm food waiting for them at the lodge.
  • Incredible Food: Though not fully featured in the video, Ben assures his audience that “the lodge is amazing and the food’s incredible.”
  • The Setting: Ultimately, the variety of scenery, from dramatic waterfalls to pastoral valleys, is what makes the trip unforgettable.

Looking Ahead

Ben and his group finished the trip by exploring even more rivers, enjoying fantastic streamer action, and even a celebratory dry fly catch. Reflecting on his third year visiting, Ben noted that every year brings a “little bit different” experience and thanked “Diego and everyone at Vista Patagonia Lodge” for doing such a “fantastic job of taking care of us.”

We are already looking forward to hosting Ben and his followers again next year!

If Ben’s Patagonian adventure has you dreaming of wild trout and spectacular scenery, we invite you to experience the trip yourself.
